More than 100 posts on this blog has not been one that explains about optimizing blog, creating meta descriptions, blog tutorial, and tips blogging. That is because in general this blog is not intended for that. But because there is one question from one woman-commentator in the post “Notice The Musings and Ramblings of This Woman” then I accidentally made this post specifically for her. Again, this post is specifically reserved for her. Although I would also be glad when this post also useful for others.
There are two points which I will explain in this post about optimizing the blog using blogger platform or blogspot. And those two points are: how to create meta descriptions and how to insert alt text on images.
1. Creating meta descriptions
Blog meta descriptions are useful because they often dictate how your blog is shown in search results. For optimum effectiveness, meta descriptions should be 70-160 characters long. It should be concise and contain best keywords of the blog. The following how to create blog meta descriptions: 1. Go to the dashboard; 2. Click on settings; 3. select Search Preferences; 4. Enable search description; 5. Fill your blog description (maximum 150 characters); 6. Save changes. See image below:
After we enable blog meta descriptions we can also create post/page meta descriptions on each post or page. And the following how to create post/page meta descriptions: 1. Go to the dashboard; 2. Create new post/edit post; 3. Click Search Description; 4. Fill your post/page description (maximum 150 characters); 5. Click “Done“. See image below:
2. Inserting alt text on the images
Actually this is an easy job, but it is very useful for optimizing a blog. By inserting alt text on images, the images will be indexed by search engines. That way the blog will be more known by search engines. Well, just on points:
1. Go to the dashboard; 2. Click the “Create New Post” (for creating alt text for images, in new post) or “Edit Post” to update the alt text on the post that have been published; 3. Upload a picture (for new post); 4. Enable compose style (not HTML) when editing images; 5. Move your mouse over the image and click on image; 6. It appears like this:
7. Click properties and fill “title text” form and “alt text” form as you want, then click OK and then save or publish the post.
I think these two points are essential in terms of optimizing the blog. And whatever, at least with this post I have certainly made a good faith in response to a serious comment on this blog. Hopefully useful.
