There is a movement mobilizing support for the petition to reach President Obama. “Allow all breastfeeding moms the right to pump and nurse when needed”, that the title of petition. This petition must be supported and promoted. This is the contents of the petition:
We request federal legislation be amended or created which entitles a mother to breastfeed her child and/or pump breast milk in any public, educational, or workplace location wherein the mother is otherwise permitted, regardless of age, employer or student and/or employment status.
We ask that all employers and educational institutions be required to provide reasonable break time and a non-bathroom, private space which is free from intrusion for all breastfeeding mothers present.
We also ask penalties be put in place for those institutions and employers who do not uphold this legislation.
The government should pay attention to them, breastfeeding mothers and babies. To create quality generation, fulfillment of the rights of breastfeeding for infants is a must. Babies of course entitled to breastfed, while the mother also entitled to give affection to infant or children.
Not half-hearted, The Qur’an even encourage mothers to breastfeed their children for two years.
وَٱلْوَٰلِدَٰتُ يُرْضِعْنَ أَوْلَٰدَهُنَّ حَوْلَيْنِ كَامِلَيْنِ ۖ لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يُتِمَّ ٱلرَّضَاعَةَ (البقرة , 2:233)
Mothers may breastfeed their children two complete years for whoever wishes to complete the nursing (period). Surat Al-Baqarah [2:233].
It is reasonable and even a necessity, if the mother and children are protected for comfortably and safely breastfeeding activities anytime and anywhere. And the government as decision maker must be able to make and enforce the rules that guarantees the right was enjoyed. And ignoring this right is persecution and a violation of human rights. No guarantee of comfort for both mother and baby are part of the torture.
From this little notes we can realize that indeed should we have to support the petition. All stakeholders should be able to realize what was in the petition. There need not be an objection to the petition. What do you think?
